339 other folks died whilst cleansing sewers, septic tanks in remaining 5 years: Centre

NEW DELHI:  As many as 339 other folks have died whilst cleansing sewers and septic tanks in India within the remaining 5 years, in step with executive knowledge.

Responding to a query in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale stated 9 such deaths had been recorded in 2023, 66 in 2022, 58 in 2021, 22 in 2020, 117 in 2019 and 67 deaths in 2018.

Handbook scavenging is a banned follow beneath the Prohibition of Employment as Handbook Scavengers and their Rehabilitation (PEMSR) Act, 2013.

The Act bans the usage of someone for manually cleansing, sporting, putting off or differently dealing with, in any way, human excreta until its disposal.
