New Delhi marked a historic moment today as President Droupadi Murmu addressed a joint session of Parliament, kicking off the Budget Session on January 28. This pivotal session, spanning two phases until April 2, 2026, sets the stage for Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s budget presentation on February 1 at 11 AM.

President Murmu’s speech opened with heartfelt pride in addressing Parliament. She reflected on the past year as one of India’s rapid advancement and cultural celebrations, spotlighting the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram.’ Tributes to poet Bankim Chandra Chatterjee resonated across the nation, with special parliamentary discussions earning her commendation for lawmakers.

Emphasizing Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s vision of equality and social justice, the President underscored the Constitution’s foundational principles. Every citizen, she affirmed, deserves equal rights and opportunities without discrimination.

In a triumphant note, President Murmu revealed that over 250 million Indians have risen above poverty in the last decade, crediting the government’s unwavering commitment to true social justice. Initiatives empowering the poor have accelerated in the third term, transforming lives on an unprecedented scale.

As India steps into the second quarter-century of this century, the President hailed the first 25 years as packed with achievements and pride. The nation has fortified its foundations across sectors in the past 10-11 years, positioning 2026 as a crucial milestone toward a ‘Developed India.’

A landmark reform in income tax law now exempts earnings up to ₹12 lakh, delivering massive relief to the poor and middle class. This move has invigorated the economy, fostering growth and financial inclusion for millions.
