177 Ghazipur Beneficiaries Get Rs 1 Lakh Under PMAY-U 2.0

In a significant boost to urban housing initiatives, 177 beneficiaries in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, received the first installment of Rs 1 lakh directly into their bank accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0) on Monday.

The event, held at the District Panchayat Hall, saw district officials distributing certificates to the recipients amid jubilation. Beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityya Nath for transforming their living conditions.

This disbursement forms part of a statewide program launched by CM Yogi from Lucknow, where he virtually connected with beneficiaries across all districts, extending his best wishes for their new beginnings.

Many recipients shared heartwarming stories of hardship. Previously residing in makeshift structures of thatch, tin sheds, or raw brick homes, they faced severe challenges during monsoons, with water flooding their dwellings. ‘Rain was our biggest nightmare,’ said one beneficiary, highlighting how leaks and collapses made life miserable.

With the funds now in hand, families are gearing up to construct pucca (permanent) houses. Optimism is high that construction will wrap up before the next rainy season, ensuring dry and secure homes.

Municipal Chairperson Sarita Agarwal emphasized the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism’s efficiency, urging beneficiaries to explore other government schemes. ‘This is just the start; link up with more programs for holistic development,’ she advised.

Manorama, a beneficiary, recounted the pains of kuccha housing: ‘Life was a daily struggle. This aid will help us build a sturdy home.’ Similarly, Rinki spoke of waterlogged homes during rains, financial constraints preventing repairs. ‘Now, with PMAY support, we’ll have a proper house for our family,’ she beamed, thanking the leadership.

This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to ‘Housing for All,’ bridging the gap between dreams and reality for urban poor, fostering dignity and stability in Ghazipur’s communities.
