In a prestigious recognition of their exemplary service, the Union Home Ministry has announced that 16 officers and personnel from the Gujarat Police force will be honored with President’s Police Medals on Republic Day, January 26. This announcement, made on Sunday from New Delhi and Gandhinagar, underscores the vital contributions of these dedicated individuals to public safety and law enforcement.
President Droupadi Murmu will personally confer these awards during the national Republic Day honors ceremony. Among the recipients, two senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from the Gujarat cadre have been selected for the highest accolade: the President’s Distinguished Service Medal (PSM). These officers are Additional Director General of Police Nipun Thorawne, currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary in the Gujarat Home Department, and SS Raghuvanshi.
Their selection highlights decades of outstanding leadership in critical policing operations and administrative roles, setting benchmarks in efficiency and integrity. The remaining 14 awardees will receive the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM), celebrating their unwavering commitment to public duty.
These honorees represent a diverse cross-section of the Gujarat Police, spanning intelligence wings, state surveillance cells, prison departments, motor transport units, coastal security teams, and city police forces in Ahmedabad, Surat, and Rajkot. They also include members from the State Reserve Police Force, with ranks ranging from senior officials to constables.
The awards recognize exceptional performances in high-stakes areas such as anti-terrorism operations, intelligence gathering, crime prevention, disaster management, prison reforms, and maintaining law and order. Gujarat DGP Dr. KLN Rao extended heartfelt congratulations to all recipients, noting that this honor reflects the force’s professionalism and dedication.
“These medals will inspire our personnel across the state to continue serving the public with renewed commitment,” Rao stated. The Gujarat Home Department echoed these sentiments, praising the awardees for their relentless efforts in safeguarding the state.
