Nagpur, Feb 14 – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis issued a strong call to action on Saturday, emphasizing that combating cancer effectively demands more than just treatment. Prevention and early diagnosis must take center stage in India’s health strategy.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the ‘Oncology Beyond Borders’ global conference organized by the National Cancer Institute, Fadnavis highlighted the alarming surge in cancer cases over the past decade. This rise has positioned cancer as one of the most pressing challenges for healthcare systems worldwide.

‘India has made remarkable strides in healthcare, yet cancer remains a formidable concern both nationally and globally,’ he stated. The CM underscored that diseases like cancer do not discriminate based on borders or socio-economic status, urging collective efforts to share ideas and find solutions transcending boundaries.

Fadnavis praised initiatives like ‘Oncology Beyond Borders’ for fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation in cancer care. He spotlighted the pivotal role of institutions such as the National Cancer Institute in delivering advanced treatments, benefiting patients not only from India but also from other nations.

Turning attention to Maharashtra’s efforts, the Chief Minister elaborated on the Maha Cancer Foundation, which aims to build a statewide cancer care network using a hub-and-spoke model. This approach ensures accessible, high-quality treatment across the state.

He stressed the critical need for ramping up research, innovation, and the integration of medical technology, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance early detection and treatment outcomes. ‘Early diagnosis and technological advancements are vital to improving survival rates and reducing the overall burden of cancer,’ Fadnavis asserted.

The conference serves as a beacon of hope, bringing together global experts to chart a path forward against this pervasive disease. As Maharashtra leads with proactive measures, the message is clear: a united, innovative front is essential to conquer cancer.
