Mumbai’s music powerhouse Vishal Dadlani has fired a bold shot across the bow of aspiring artists relying on political pull. In a candid Instagram post on Monday, the composer slammed the culture of ‘recommendations’ and ‘connections’ plaguing the music industry.
Dadlani, known for his unfiltered social media takes, shared a stern advisory for young singers. ‘Don’t ever try to get a minister, leader, or their secretary to call me on your behalf,’ he wrote. ‘That kills any chance of meeting me, and I have zero respect for those chasing contracts through backdoors.’
Recalling a fresh incident, he revealed blocking both a minister and a singer who attempted this tactic. ‘No matter how talented you are, I’m not interested in working with you. Sorry,’ he declared unapologetically.
The post resonated deeply, urging talents to bank on skill, hard work, and patience. ‘If you’re truly good, your time will come. Ditching recommendations shows faith in your own abilities—this old-school mindset is outdated and boring.’
Fans lapped it up, with comedian Munawar Faruqui quipping in comments: ‘Sir, my manager has ‘Minister’ on Truecaller. Please unblock him!’
Dadlani’s legacy spans Bollywood hits with Vishal-Shekhar, from Jhankar Beats to Rockstar, War, and Om Shanti Om. As Pentagram’s frontman, he champions merit over nepotism in an industry ripe for change.
