In a surprising revelation that has sent ripples through the South Indian film industry, Vijay Sethupathi has finally opened up about his decision to take on a cameo role in the much-awaited sequel to Rajinikanth’s blockbuster ‘Jailer’. The actor, known for his versatile performances in films like ‘Vikram Vedha’ and ‘Master’, shared his excitement during a recent promotional event for his upcoming project.

Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’, released in 2023, shattered box office records, grossing over ₹600 crore worldwide. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the film featured an ensemble cast including Tamannaah Bhatia and Shiva Rajkumar. Its success has paved the way for ‘Jailer 2’, which promises even more high-octane action and drama. Fans were thrilled when rumors surfaced about Vijay Sethupathi’s involvement, but the actor kept mum until now.

‘I couldn’t say no to Rajinikanth sir,’ Vijay Sethupathi confessed with a smile. ‘Working with him is a dream for any actor. Even though it’s just a cameo, it’s packed with intensity and emotion. Nelson has crafted something special, and I’m grateful to be a part of it.’ He emphasized that the role, though brief, carries significant weight in the narrative, adding depth to the story’s climax.

The announcement comes at a time when ‘Jailer 2’ is in pre-production. Shooting is slated to begin in mid-2025 in Hyderabad and Rajasthan, with Rajinikanth expected to reprise his role as Muthuvel Pandian. Producers Sun Pictures have hinted at a grander scale, including international locations and advanced VFX. Vijay Sethupathi’s cameo is rumored to link back to his antagonistic character from the first film, fueling speculation about plot twists.

Industry insiders reveal that Sethupathi’s schedule was tight due to his commitments in Hindi and Tamil projects, including ‘Gandhi Talks’ and ‘Idam Porul Yaeval’. Yet, he made time for this passion project, underscoring the camaraderie among Tamil cinema’s stalwarts. ‘It’s not about the length of the role; it’s about the impact,’ he added, echoing sentiments from his past collaborations.

As anticipation builds, ‘Jailer 2’ is poised to dominate the 2026 Pongal season. With Superstar Rajinikanth at the helm and talents like Vijay Sethupathi contributing, the film is set to redefine action entertainers. Fans are already chanting ‘Thalaivaa’ in excitement, eager for more updates from this powerhouse sequel.
