Born in Hyderabad in 1980 to a Dalit family, Neeraj Ghaywan’s path to filmmaking was not a direct one. After completing his education in electrical engineering and earning an MBA, he entered the corporate world. However, he eventually transitioned to the world of cinema. He began as a film critic for Passionforcinema.com, fueled by the encouragement of director Anurag Kashyap. Ghaywan’s early works, including short films like ‘Independence,’ ‘Shor,’ and ‘Epiphany,’ showcased his potential. His collaborations with Anurag Kashyap, including assisting on ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ and ‘Ugly,’ further honed his skills. His film ‘Masaan’ marked a significant turning point.
