Mumbai is buzzing with excitement over an upcoming Bengali film that’s set to redefine women’s narratives in Indian cinema. ‘Cheledhora’, an Indo-American production, dives deep into the intricate bond between a mother and daughter, exploring themes of guilt, redemption, and self-discovery. Shooting kicks off on March 1 in the stunning locales of Arunachal Pradesh, with acclaimed actress Swastika Mukherjee stepping into the lead role of Brishti.

Brishti is no ordinary character. She’s a divorced woman grappling with emotional turmoil, making impulsive decisions that often lead her astray. Swastika describes her as someone audiences might initially dislike for her flaws, but whose unwavering love for her daughter shines through. ‘This story captures those vulnerable moments when inner strength emerges from the depths of weakness,’ Swastika shared.

The plot takes a dramatic turn when Brishti, in a heartfelt but reckless move, sneaks her daughter away to celebrate her birthday without permission. What starts as an emotional impulse spirals into a nightmare as the child is genuinely kidnapped. Thrust into crisis, Brishti embarks on an unconventional path to rescue her, transforming the narrative into a profound journey of self-realization.

Director Shilabitty Moulik envisions ‘Cheledhora’ as a road trip laced with emotional highs and lows, centered on healing, forgiveness, and second chances. ‘Children often become the moral compass for adults,’ he notes, highlighting how tough circumstances force parents to confront their shortcomings.

The production team is thrilled to shoot in Itanagar and Ziro Valley, not just for the breathtaking scenery but for the local talent. Fourteen crew members from Arunachal Pradesh bring authenticity and skill to the project. As anticipation builds, ‘Cheledhora’ promises to deliver a gripping tale that resonates with every parent who’s ever faced their own imperfections.
