Mumbai’s music circles are buzzing with discussions about Arijit Singh’s potential exit from playback singing. Renowned singer-songwriter Swanand Kirkire, currently in the spotlight for his roles in writing and acting for the newly released web series ‘Bandwale’, shared his candid thoughts in an exclusive interview.
Kirkire, known for his versatile contributions to Indian cinema, reflected on the industry’s relentless pace. ‘Arijit might be feeling exhausted from Bollywood’s demanding schedule,’ he remarked. ‘The music world still craves talented voices like his. His shift towards independent music is admirable, but his absence will leave a void in film songs.’
Diving deeper into the pressures faced by artists, Kirkire highlighted how the constant grind can wear anyone down. ‘Taking a creative break isn’t a bad idea. It could allow Arijit to recharge and return with renewed vigor,’ he suggested, drawing parallels to other singers who’ve stepped back temporarily.
He expressed mild disappointment over the timing. ‘Arijit is young and immensely gifted. The industry needs him. Perhaps boredom has set in, or he wants to explore filmmaking and other passions. Personal reasons must be at play,’ Kirkire added. With fresh talents emerging daily, mirroring Arijit’s own rise, he sees room for evolution.
Kirkire concluded optimistically: ‘If he’s venturing into independent music, that’s fantastic. It opens new doors for creativity.’ The series ‘Bandwale’, directed by Akshat Verma, features a stellar cast including Shalini Pandey, Jahan Kapoor, Ashish Vidyarthi, and others, telling an inspiring tale of dream-chasing musicians.
