Mumbai’s creative powerhouse Swanand Kirkire is stepping into uncharted territory with his debut web series ‘Bandwaale’, where he dons the dual hats of creator and lead actor. Set to premiere on Prime Video on February 13, this musical-comedy promises a fresh narrative woven from Kirkire’s decades-long storytelling passion.
The series, co-created with Ankur Tewari, marks a significant milestone for the National Award-winning lyricist, singer, composer, and actor. Kirkire shared his excitement, reflecting on how stories have always been his constant companions—some expressed through music, others through characters, and many simmering quietly in his mind.
‘Bandwaale’ emerges as the culmination of these tales, finally given a form that allows them to breathe and evolve. Kirkire described the experience of crafting his first series and starring in it as both humbling and exhilarating. ‘Living your acting skills and residing within the character brings a unique responsibility,’ he noted, emphasizing his trust in the creative process.
He delved deeper into his journey, explaining how he learned to collaborate deeply, let the story guide him, and view this project as a natural extension of his artistic evolution. Gratitude poured out for Prime Video for backing a story close to his heart.
Kirkire’s illustrious career includes two National Film Awards for Best Lyrics: first in 2006 for ‘Bande Me Tha Dum’ from ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’, and again in 2009 for ‘Behati Hawa Sa Tha Wo’ from ‘3 Idiots’. Joining him in ‘Bandwaale’ are Shalini Pandey and Jahan Kapur in key roles.
As audiences gear up for this innovative blend of music and humor, Kirkire’s venture underscores his versatility and commitment to authentic storytelling in the digital age. Don’t miss the premiere that could redefine web series creativity.
