Mumbai’s buzzing film scene has a new highlight with the upcoming period drama ‘Swambhu’, directed by Bharat Krishnamachari. Starring Nikhil alongside actresses Samyuktha and Naba Natesh, this South Indian epic is shaping up as one of the year’s most anticipated releases. But what truly sets it apart is its deep-rooted connection to a symbol of ancient Indian heritage: the Sengol.

In a recent revelation, lead actor Nikhil unveiled the film’s inspiration. ‘Swambhu’ draws from the storied history of the Sengol, a sacred sceptre embodying righteous rule, justice, and moral authority. Many know it as the royal staff carried by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the inauguration of the new Parliament building, but its origins run much deeper.

Nikhil explained, ‘The Sengol was first bestowed by Lord Rama to his descendants, symbolizing just governance and ethical leadership. It has journeyed through India’s history, holding immense significance in empires like the mighty Chola dynasty.’ The film weaves a fictional yet captivating tale around this emblem and its hero, set against the grandeur of the Chola golden age.

Produced by Bhuvan and Shrikar of Pixel Studios, ‘Swambhu’ promises visual splendor and historical depth. Fans are already thrilled, with the teaser set to drop at a grand pan-India event in two cities on February 11. Mark your calendars for the worldwide release on April 10, 2026. This isn’t just a movie; it’s a cinematic homage to India’s regal past.
