Mumbai, March 6 – Bollywood actress Selina Jaitly opened her heart in a poignant Instagram post, reflecting on life’s twists, years abroad, and the deep ache of losing her sense of home. Back in India after a long stint overseas, she confessed to feeling a profound emptiness that no familiar landscape could fill.

Selina, who spent much of her childhood in the lush hills of Kumaon with her army officer parents, drew stark parallels between the majestic Alps of Austria and the forested mountains of her youth. ‘After spending as many years abroad as I did with my parents in childhood, you start questioning your roots and identity,’ she wrote candidly.

Married to Austrian businessman Peter Haag, Selina relocated first to Australia and then Austria. Yet, despite building a life there, she was forever reduced to ‘Peter’s Indian wife.’ The glamour of foreign vistas couldn’t replace the warmth of her family’s embrace, especially now that her parents are gone.

‘You can’t have the same person twice, not even the same person,’ she recalled her mother’s words, underscoring the irreplaceable joy of time spent with her parents. As an army brat, her childhood was nomadic—no single home, but endless love wherever they went. Now, with her own family scattered and her Indian ties frayed, Selina grapples with belonging nowhere fully.

India’s return promised nostalgia, but change has swept through. The actress wonders aloud: ‘Where do I truly belong?’ Her story resonates with countless expatriates torn between worlds, holding onto childhood memories of tigers, jungles, and mountain air as the last threads to ‘home.’

In a world of fluid identities, Selina’s confession is a raw reminder that some pains are too precious to heal, linking us eternally to what’s lost. Her post has sparked waves of empathy online, as fans share their own tales of displacement.
