Mumbai’s entertainment scene is buzzing with fresh talent, and actress Sandeepa Dhar has captured hearts with her nuanced performance in the recently released film ‘Do Diwane Shahar Mein’. Stepping into the shoes of Naina, a character who projects flawless perfection on the outside while grappling with profound loneliness and emotional fragility within, Dhar delivered a performance that resonates deeply with audiences.
In an exclusive conversation, Dhar opened up about what drew her to this project. ‘Naina was the biggest pull for me,’ she shared. ‘She appears so put-together and joyful externally, but inside, she’s battling isolation and heartbreak. The film beautifully explores this internal journey, contrasting outward perfection with inner turmoil. As an actor, portraying this duality was both challenging and exhilarating.’
Dhar didn’t hold back in praising the film’s narrative. ‘It’s been a while since we saw a love story that’s refreshingly unconventional,’ she noted. ‘This isn’t your typical romance; it’s about two flawed individuals who gradually embrace their vulnerabilities, accept each other, and move forward together.’ Such stories, where protagonists choose one another despite knowing their weaknesses, are rare gems in cinema.
Post-release, Dhar is over the moon with the reception. ‘I’m thrilled because the film turned out exactly as envisioned, and my character was portrayed just right. When expectations are met, it brings immense satisfaction. I knew the confrontation scene with Mrunal in the second half would be a highlight if executed well—and it was. Viewers have raved about it, relating to it personally.’
Directed by Ravi Udyawar, the film is a production venture involving Sanjay Leela Bhansali alongside Prerna Singh, Umesh Kumar Bansal, and Bharat Kumar. Dhar commended the team’s vision: ‘Being part of a Bhansali production is special due to his unmatched visual storytelling. Our director Ravi shares that depth, especially in capturing Mumbai and Uttarakhand’s stunning locales, which elevated the entire experience.’
Concluding her thoughts, Dhar highlighted the film’s profound themes. ‘Through its story, it touches on sibling rivalries, the need for validation, self-worth, sisterhood, family values, and even familial toxicity. It offers a honest lens on modern relationships and emotional struggles, making it a must-watch.’
