Samay Raina, a prominent YouTuber, is under scrutiny following a court order requiring him to apologize for content deemed offensive to people with disabilities. This follows a complaint filed by Cure SMA, an organization supporting individuals with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. The Supreme Court has ruled that Raina, along with fellow influencers Vipul Goyal, Balraj Paramjeet Singh Ghai, Nishant Jagdish Tanwar, and Sonali Thakkar aka Sonali Aditya Desai, must issue an unconditional apology on their respective YouTube channels and platforms. The court has also directed the Indian government to establish guidelines for social media content to prevent jokes targeting individuals with disabilities, promoting appropriate behavior. Justice Surya Kant expressed concerns about the misuse of free speech, emphasizing the need for balance between rights and responsibilities. He pointed out that previously, the court had strongly criticized the comedians for the jokes they made regarding disabled people. He further suggested the need for guidelines to prevent such incidents from happening again.
