Mumbai’s film scene lit up on Friday as Rani Mukerji’s highly anticipated ‘Mardani 3’ hit theaters, captivating audiences with its powerful portrayal of female empowerment. The film dives deep into the relentless struggles of women in uniform, shedding light on their daily battles against crime, fear, and societal pressures.

Returning to her iconic role as Shivani Shivaji Roy, Rani once again embodies the fierce police officer fans adore. During a special session with Delhi Police women officers, she opened up to IANS about what it means to wear the badge for the third time. ‘Donning the police uniform for the third time is a profound honor and privilege,’ Rani shared. ‘These women officers lead incredibly tough lives, facing personal struggles and unique stories while tackling everyday challenges. Yet, their extraordinary ability to crack tough cases is nothing short of inspiring.’

Through Shivani’s character, Rani aims to showcase the unwavering dedication of Indian women officers. ‘I’m trying to highlight how they work round-the-clock to fulfill their duties and safeguard society,’ she added.

When pressed by an officer on why films like this are still needed in 2026 to educate society about women and child safety issues, Rani responded thoughtfully. ‘Instead of anger or frustration, we must focus on the steps being taken to improve conditions. Initiatives like Nirbhaya Squads, Damini Squads, and various helplines are positive strides toward ensuring every girl and child gets help when needed.’

She emphasized that these challenges aren’t unique to India but global concerns. ‘Struggle is part of every life, and women’s and children’s safety is a pressing issue worldwide. We should look at these positive efforts with hope for a brighter future. Change doesn’t happen overnight, but consistent steps in the right direction make society safer.’

‘Mardani 3’ not only entertains but provokes thought, urging viewers to appreciate the unsung heroes in khaki who protect us all.
