In a shocking turn of events, popular Punjabi actress Himanshi Khurana has been hit with a chilling death threat from gangster Jishan Akhtar, who is demanding a whopping Rs 10 crore as ransom. The threats came via email and phone, prompting swift action from Mohali police.
According to police sources, the first threat arrived on February 12 at around 11:45 PM on Khurana’s email, containing an audio message explicitly warning of murder unless the ransom was paid. A follow-up email on February 13 at 6:18 PM reiterated the demands, followed by a missed call, message, and another audio note on her team’s phone and her personal device later that night.
Mohali’s SP (Detective) Saurabh Jindal confirmed that an FIR has been registered at Sohana police station, naming Jishan Akhtar as the prime suspect. ‘The threats were sent through email, and we’ve placed the actress under tight security while launching a full investigation,’ Jindal stated. The phone number involved has been sent for surveillance.
Khurana, who rose to fame after winning Miss Ludhiana at 16 and debuting in the 2010 Punjabi film ‘Sadda Haq’, told police she doesn’t know Akhtar. ‘I’m in the music industry, and this came out of nowhere. I don’t need security right now, but I’ll inform if I travel,’ she said.
Her career highlights include films like ‘Leather Life’ and ‘Afsar’, numerous music videos, and a memorable stint on Bigg Boss 13, where she was linked with Asim Riaz—though that relationship ended. This incident underscores the growing menace of extortion targeting celebrities in Punjab, with police vowing to track down the perpetrator and ensure Khurana’s safety.
