Pandit Shivkumar Sharma’s story is one of profound transformation. Born in Jammu in 1938, he initially resisted the santoor, an instrument his mother dreamed he would master. Encouraged by his father, Uma Dutt Sharma, he eventually embraced the 100-stringed instrument, moving away from his first love, the tabla. Through rigorous training and innovative techniques, he elevated the santoor from a folk instrument to a mainstay of Indian classical music, earning global acclaim and numerous awards, including the Padma Vibhushan.
