Leicester Square in London has become the stage for a heartwarming celebration of Indian cinema, with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol unveiling a new bronze statue. The artwork immortalizes their characters, Raj and Simran, from the enduringly popular film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ (DDLJ), marking its 30th anniversary. This significant recognition positions DDLJ as the inaugural Indian film to be featured in the esteemed ‘Scenes in the Square’ collection.

Shah Rukh Khan shared his joy online, posting images of himself and Kajol next to the statue. He shared, “Thrilled to unveil the bronze statue of Raj & Simran at London’s Leicester Square today, celebrating 30 years of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ)!” He further added his appreciation for the UK’s support in making this tribute a reality, inviting visitors to connect with the film’s legacy. The duo’s attire for the unveiling, SRK in black and Kajol in blue, added to the event’s charm.

Aditya Chopra’s directorial debut, ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, produced by Yash Raj Films, was a monumental hit upon its release in 1995. The film achieved phenomenal box office success, with reported worldwide earnings of Rs 102.50 crore against a budget of Rs 4 crore. Its lasting influence on cinema and popular culture is undeniable, celebrated now with this London landmark.
