Sunny Deol is currently occupied with ‘Border 2,’ slated to release on January 26th, while also focusing on ‘Lahore 1947.’ This film is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, produced by Aamir Khan, and stars Preity Zinta. In a recent interview, Deol provided insights into the making of ‘Lahore 1947,’ explaining the genesis of the project.
During an interview with Zoom, Sunny Deol discussed the inspiration behind ‘Lahore 1947.’ He mentioned that he and Rajkumar Santoshi had been exploring the subject for years, aiming to realize it, particularly after ‘Gadar’s’ success. Aamir Khan’s involvement, expressing his interest in the project, led to collective agreement among the team.
Sunny elaborated on the emotional depth of the film’s subject. He highlighted the intensity and depth of the characters within ‘Lahore 1947’, describing it as a drama adaptation with hopes for an early release. Based on Asghar Wajahat’s play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Ni,’ the film is set against the backdrop of the Partition. The narrative centers on a Muslim family that moves from Lucknow to Lahore and is assigned a haveli formerly occupied by a Hindu family. Unexpected complications arise when the Hindu family refuses to leave.
‘Lahore 1947’ stars Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, and Karan Deol. The film is planned for release this year. In addition to this, Sunny Deol is also working on the sequel to ‘Border’. ‘Border 2,’ directed by JP Dutta, stars Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty and will be released on January 22, 2026.
