New Delhi, February 24: Amid swirling rumors on social media and certain news outlets, the makers of ‘The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond’ have firmly put an end to speculation about their teaser being removed. Sunshine Pictures, the production house behind the controversial sequel, issued a strong official statement clarifying that no such action has been taken.
The company emphasized that the Kerala High Court, where the matter is currently under review, has not ordered the removal of either the teaser or the trailer. Both promotional materials remain fully accessible on all official platforms. ‘These rumors are entirely false, baseless, and misleading,’ the statement read, urging media, digital platforms, and the public to verify facts before spreading unconfirmed information.
This clarification comes hot on the heels of a court notice issued to the filmmakers on Thursday. The notice stems from a writ petition challenging the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) approval for the film. The petitioner objects to the teaser and trailer, alleging they depict women from multiple states being lured into relationships and forcibly converted to another religion.
The petition argues that despite the story’s broader connections, the title and promotions unfairly link it exclusively to Kerala, spotlighting terrorism, forced conversions, and conspiracies. The teaser’s closing Hindi slogan, ‘Ab sehenge nahi, ladenge’ (We won’t tolerate anymore, we will fight), has fueled further controversy, with claims it incites retaliation and communal tension.
Accusations in the petition point to the CBFC’s failure to adhere to Section 5B of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, which bars certification for films threatening public order, decency, morality, or inciting crime. The teaser, released on January 30, features three Hindu girls—played by Ulka Gupta, Aishwarya Ojha, and Aditi Bhatia—whose lives unravel through romantic entanglements leading to conversion plots. Dressed in hijabs, they narrate their anguish, culminating in the provocative slogan.
Sunshine Pictures has called for restraint, warning that misinformation only breeds confusion and unnecessary disputes. As the court case progresses, the film continues to stir passionate debates across the nation, echoing the uproar surrounding its predecessor.
