Director Karan Johar has commented on the use of artificial intelligence to alter the ending of the film ‘Raanjhanaa’. The film, starring Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor, was recently re-released with a new ending generated by AI, where the character Kundan survives, contrasting with the original ending.
Johar’s statement is in response to the controversy surrounding the film’s new ending. Director Anand L. Rai, whose film ‘Tere Ishq Mein…’ is on the horizon, featuring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, previously criticized the changes. The controversy highlights growing concerns regarding the use of AI in modifying existing cinematic works.
Johar has supported Rai’s stance, emphasizing the importance of contracts and ethics in the industry. He said that if a producer owns 100% of the rights to a film, they are free to make the changes they desire. However, he believes it is essential to consider the moral implications.
Johar explained that he currently owns all of his intellectual property. But, if he were to change anything in a film, he would always consult the director. He made it clear that without contractual agreements, ethical behavior is crucial. Changing a director’s vision without their consent is, in his opinion, unacceptable.
