The enigmatic conclusion of the courtroom drama Haq is a topic of much discussion, and director Suparn Verma has shed light on its exclusivity. Verma revealed that only three individuals are aware of the intended, precise meaning behind the film’s final, symbolic rose scene. In a recent interview, the director stated that the climactic moments were envisioned from the very beginning of the project. The circle of knowledge includes lead actors Emraan Hashmi (Abbas) and Yami Gautam (Shazia), along with production designer Rishika. Verma recounted his collaboration with Rishika, explaining that he asked for a rose garden to be created for the final scene, and she delivered an element that became the scene’s ultimate statement. The director emphasized how the rose was woven into the fabric of the story, originating from Emraan’s character gifting one to Yami’s in their first meeting, a memento kept by Yami, and later appearing in Emraan’s possession throughout the legal proceedings, culminating in its placement at the end. Verma deliberately withholds his personal interpretation, fostering an environment where audience interpretations are welcomed and valued, believing that every viewer’s perspective holds truth. He also discussed the casting of Emraan Hashmi for the challenging role of Abbas. Verma admitted that finding the right actor was difficult, and although Hashmi was a recurring suggestion, he initially considered it improbable. He attributes the successful casting to sheer conviction and the actor’s ability to embody the character’s complexity, which has been widely praised. Haq, a film inspired by the historical Shah Bano case, is garnering accolades for its performances and thoughtful portrayal of a sensitive legal and social issue.
