In a dramatic escalation of the bitter family feud over the estate of late industrialist Sanjay Kapoor, the Delhi High Court has issued summons to Mandhira Kapoor in a civil defamation suit filed by Sanjay’s widow, Priya Kapoor. The court, while taking cognizance of the matter, has urged both parties to explore mediation as a path to resolution.

The courtroom proceedings revealed deep-seated animosity. Priya’s counsel argued that Mandhira’s public statements, including those targeting Priya and her minor son, have caused irreparable harm to their reputation and family lineage. These remarks, disseminated across media platforms, were portrayed as deliberate attempts to tarnish their social standing.

Justice, presiding over the hearing, imposed a strict gag order, prohibiting both sides from making direct or indirect comments to the media. This directive aims to prevent further escalation amid ongoing property disputes stemming from Sanjay Kapoor’s will.

Mandhira’s legal team countered fiercely, dismissing the allegations as fabricated and pointing to omitted facts in the petition. They vowed to contest the claims vigorously.

The dispute traces back to Sanjay’s untimely demise, sparking a series of legal battles within the Kapoor family. Priya has previously lodged criminal defamation complaints against Mandhira and podcaster Pooja Chaudhary in Patiala House Court, citing defamatory content on social media, podcasts, and interviews.

With the next hearing scheduled for May 14, the court emphasized the importance of amicable settlement through mediation. As the Kapoor saga unfolds, it underscores the perils of inheritance disputes in high-profile families, where personal vendettas spill into public domain, leaving lasting scars.
