The highly anticipated film ‘Coolie,’ starring Superstar Rajinikanth and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is set to be released in 2025. The film is also expected to compete with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s ‘War 2’ for a wide release in India. Advance booking for ‘Coolie’ is scheduled to begin on August 8, with early morning shows planned.
Given the immense popularity of Rajinikanth, numerous theaters have scheduled early morning screenings for ‘Coolie.’ In Kerala and Karnataka, shows will begin at 6 AM, while in Tamil Nadu, the first screenings will start at 9 AM. It is important to note that early shows are not scheduled in Tamil Nadu due to the government’s decision in 2023 to cancel FDFS (First Day First-Show) screenings following the passing of a fan.
The film’s cast includes Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Kanna Ravi, Monisha Blessy and Kaali Venkat, with Aamir Khan in a cameo role. The production is helmed by Kalanithi Maran under the banner of Sun Pictures.
‘Coolie’ has also gained attention for its ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), a rating given due to the film’s violent scenes. This rating came as a surprise to many, as Lokesh’s previous films, ‘Leo’ and ‘Vikram,’ received ‘U/A’ certificates.
The plot focuses on Deva, a former gold smuggler who is now working as a coolie. He aims to regain his former prominence by reviving his old gang with the help of stolen technology concealed in vintage golden watches, leading to unexpected consequences.
Rajinikanth’s most recent work includes ‘Vettaiyan,’ where he appeared alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, Rohini, Rao Ramesh, Abhirami, and Ramesh Thilak.
