The box office saw a major clash on August 14, 2025, with ‘War 2’, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, and Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ competing for audience attention. Both films, among the most anticipated releases of the year, attracted substantial crowds and generated noteworthy revenue, marking them as two of the year’s biggest hits. Following a successful opening weekend, both movies experienced a downturn during the weekdays, but they still managed to achieve over Rs 200 crore within their first week. With preliminary estimates from Day 8 now available, the competition continues as the films head into their second weekend.

‘War 2’ opened strongly at the box office. On Day 1, the film collected Rs 52 crore, followed by a higher Day 2 with Rs 57.85 crore, which represented an 11.25% increase. However, collections dropped on Day 3 with Rs 33.25 crore, and continued to dip slightly on Day 4 with Rs 32.65 crore, taking the extended weekend total close to Rs 176 crore. The film had a significant fall on Day 5, earning only Rs 8.75 crore (down 73.20%), but it saw a marginal increase on Day 6 with Rs 9 crore and Rs 5.75 crore on Day 7.

Day 8’s early estimates came in at Rs 5 crore. This takes the film’s 8-day total to Rs 204.25 crore across all languages. Despite the drop after the first weekend, ‘War 2’ has managed to surpass the Rs 200 crore mark within its extended first week.

‘War 2’, a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster ‘War’, was released on August 14, 2025. Hrithik Roshan returns as Agent Kabir after a six-year absence, and NTR Jr. joins the franchise as Agent Vikram. Anil Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana also play important roles.

‘Coolie’, starring Rajinikanth, had a blockbuster opening week at the box office. The movie started with a massive Rs 65 crore on Day 1, led by collections from Tamil Nadu of Rs 44.5 crore, while the Hindi version brought in Rs 4.5 crore, the Telugu version Rs 15.5 crore, and the Kannada version Rs 0.5 crore. Day 2 saw a 15.77% decrease, with earnings of Rs 54.75 crore, followed by Rs 39.5 crore on Day 3 and Rs 35.25 crore on Day 4, taking the extended weekend total to over Rs 194 crore. The film experienced the usual Monday drop, earning Rs 12 crore, and further declined to Rs 9.5 crore on Day 6 and Rs 7.5 crore on Day 7.

The film earned approximately Rs 6.25 crore on Day 8 (early estimates), pushing its 8-day total to Rs 229.75 crore across all languages. Despite significant drops after the opening weekend, ‘Coolie’ has been a massive success, reaching the Rs 200 crore mark in its first week.

The plot of ‘Coolie’ focuses on Deva, a former gold smuggler now working as a coolie. He seeks to regain his past glory by reviving his old gang, employing stolen technology hidden in vintage golden watches, leading to unforeseen outcomes.

The cast of ‘Coolie’ includes Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Kanna Ravi, Monisha Blessy, and Kaali Venkat. Aamir Khan has a cameo role. It is produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures.
