The 1990s in Bollywood saw actresses take center stage, frequently becoming the focal point and outperforming their male counterparts at the box office. This article highlights an actress who consistently outshone Akshay Kumar. Specifically, in 1994, she managed to outperform Akshay Kumar in five separate instances. Despite Akshay Kumar’s string of hit movies that year, including ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari,’ ‘Suhaag,’ ‘Yeh Dillagi,’ and ‘Ailaan,’ he was unable to reach the top spot, thanks to the astounding success of another film.

In 1994, Akshay Kumar had several successful movies. Starting with ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’, which did well, there were ‘Suhaag’ with Ajay Devgn, ‘Yeh Dillagi’ featuring Saif Ali Khan, and ‘Ailaan’. Yet, one film surpassed all others.

The highest-grossing film of 1994 was ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun,’ starring Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan. Their on-screen chemistry was a massive hit. Made with a budget of 6 crore, the film made a worldwide business of 128 crore. At the time, Madhuri was only 27 years old, the same age as Akshay Kumar.

The second highest-grossing film of that year was ‘Mohra,’ while Madhuri’s film was at the top. Although Akshay Kumar’s other movies, such as ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’, ‘Suhaag’, ‘Yeh Dillagi’, and ‘Ailaan’, also did well, they were still behind Madhuri. ‘Krantiveer’ was the third big movie of the year, and it had Akshay Kumar’s mother-in-law, Dimple Kapadia. So, Madhuri basically beat both the son and the mother-in-law.

While Madhuri Dixit’s highest-earning film is ‘Total Dhamaal,’ ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’ created numerous records. She is still working now, but not as much as Akshay Kumar does.
