    The Realme GT 7 Pro is likely to be priced between Rs. 55,000 to Rs. 60,000 in the country.

    New Delhi: Around 59 people in Hong Kong, four of whom were women, were deceived into paying over HK$1.9 million (about Rs 2 crore) in just one week after they were forced to go nude during video conversations.

    The South China Morning Post (SCMP) said that the police released the numbers on its Facebook page on Friday, cautioning locals to exercise caution when meeting persons online.

    To trick women on social media, the scammers have also been masquerading as “highly educated, high-income and physically attractive” men. The Hong Kong police claimed that the perpetrators “use sweet talk to learn about the victims’ personal lives and interests to manipulate them.” It was further said, “In the past week, police received 59 cases of naked-chat blackmail, with scammers extorting more than HK$1.9 million. Four cases involved female victims.”

    Additionally, the police disclosed that a 5th of the 1,102 victims of “naked-chat blackmail” were students. The scammers coerced the victims into paying over HK$31 million(about Rs 34 crore). According to SCMP, several of the students were around 11 years old.

    Cases of naked-chat blackmail or sextortion in India Several instances of sextortion or naked chat blackmail have also been documented in India. People were cautioned by the Kerala police earlier this year about honey traps and not to answer video calls from strangers or unknown numbers. In 2022, a Bengaluru man had to pay Rs 5 lakh to fraudsters after he was tricked into becoming nude on a video chat. In 2023, two men were detained in Rajasthan for tricking a person from Vadodara into making a naked WhatsApp chat and demanding Rs 3.33 lakh from him.

Sextortion is a type of cyber abuse in which a cybercriminal uses social media platforms, instant messaging apps, SMS, online dating apps, porn sites, and other channels to entice victims into private video/audio chats where they are forced to pose nude or provide explicit pictures. These materials are eventually used by the fraudsters to blackmail the victims. Both male and female victims may fall prey to these kinds of frauds.

  • TRAI Releases Consultation Paper On ‘Regulatory Framework For Ground-Based Broadcasters’

    New Delhi: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued the Consultation Paper on ‘Regulatory framework for Ground-based Broadcasters’.

    The Guidelines issued by MIB from time to time for Uplinking and Down linking of Satellite Television channels in India, containing the terms and conditions for TV broadcasting services, make it mandatory for the broadcasters to use satellite medium i.e. uplinking and down linking of television channels through satellite, for providing their channels to the Distribution Platform Operators (DPOs).

    “The advancement of technology has made it feasible for the broadcasters to provide their television channels to DPOs terrestrially also i.e. using ground-based technologies. Like traditional TV channels, which are uplinked and downlinked through satellite, the terrestrially transmitted channels may also be carried on multiple DPO networks simultaneously and the DPOs can retransmit them on commercial terms to the subscribers. Therefore, there is a need to have a regulatory framework enabling use of ground-based technologies,” said Ministry of Communications.

    TRAI had forwarded its recommendations on Regulatory Framework for Platform Services to MIB on 19.11.2014, which included certain recommendations related to ‘Regulatory framework for Ground-based broadcasters’.

    Accordingly, the Consultation Paper on ‘Regulatory framework for Ground-based Broadcasters’ is being released for seeking comments from stakeholders. The consultation paper may be accessed on TRAI’s website, www.trai.gov. Written comments on the consultation paper are invited from the stakeholders by 15.11.2024. Counter comments, if any, may be submitted by 29.11.2024. The stakeholders are requested to submit their comments and counter-comments, preferably in electronic form, on the email- [email protected] and [email protected], said Ministry of Communications.

    New Delhi: Global smartphone market grew 2 per cent in the July-September period – the first year-on-year growth in a third quarter since Q3 2018 — as Apple became the biggest brand in September helped by early launch of iPhone 16, according to a new report on Tuesday.

    This was the global smartphone market’s fourth consecutive quarter of growth, a testament to the ongoing market recovery, according to Counterpoint Research’s Smartphone 360 ​​Tracker.

    Apple’s sales grew 1 per cent in Q3, and it established itself as the biggest brand globally in September, helped by the iPhone 16 launch, despite iPhone 16 series sales remaining flat.

    The market has remained stable in 2024, rebounding from the lowest sales in a decade as consumer sentiment and macroeconomic factors continue to fare better than last year. Most markets recovered in Q3 led by Western Europe, Latin America (LATAM) and Japan, all recording double-digit YoY percentage growth.

    Research Director Tarun Pathak said that ass smartphone players have benefited from the recovering market in 2024, and the top 10 brands have all consolidated share.

    “Samsung and Apple retained the top two spots in Q3 2024, followed by Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo. Samsung led the market with a 19 per cent share, thanks to sustained A-series demand and better performance of the S24 series,” Pathak added.

    “Even as the iPhone 16 series saw flat sales initially, we expect the demand for iPhone 16 series to remain stable due to the large installed base of iPhone users,” he added.

    Growth in smartphone sales volumes is slowing due to lengthening holding periods and maturing consumer base.

    Nevertheless, consumers are spending more than ever on new smartphones, leading to value growth in the industry, said the report.

    “One in four consumers buying a smart phone in 2024 will spend more than $600. This is the segment where new technologies like Gen AI will make a difference,” said the report.
