Citing the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1985, the court said that there is a rule in this law that a list of gifts received by the bride and groom should also be made. This will make it clear what those people had received. Apart from this, the court said that gifts received during marriage cannot be kept under the purview of dowry.

The bench of Justice Vikram D. Chauhan has said that those who allege demand of dowry, why do they not submit a list with their application in which it is mentioned what gifts they have received during the marriage. The bench said that the Dowry Prohibition Act explains the difference between dowry and gifts. Gifts received by the boy and the girl during marriage are not included in dowry. The court advised that a list of all the things found during the marriage should be made and the signatures of the bride and groom should also be made. This can prevent future allegations.

Dowry Prohibition Act, 1985 was enacted by the Central Government.
