  • Uttar Pradesh: 3 Killed, Several Injured In Blast At Cracker Unit In Bareilly |

At least three persons were killed and as many injured following a blast at a firecracker manufacturing unit in a village here on Wednesday, police said.

The explosion, which took place in the Sirauli police station area, also caused damage to some adjoining buildings, they added.

The police said they are verifying the licence of the cracker unit’s operator Nasir.

A senior police officer said Nasir allegedly had the licence for another place but the house where the incident took place belonged to his in-laws.

“Three people have died and at least as many injured in an explosion at a firecracker making unit in Sirauli area of Bareilly district,” Inspector General (Bareilly Range) Rakesh Singh told PTI.

“The explosion has also led to damages in three-four adjoining buildings. The man operating the firecracker unit has been identified as one Nasir. He is said to have been in possession of a licence, details of which are being looked into,” Singh added.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the incident. He condoled the loss of lives and directed officials to ensure proper treatment of those injured in the blast.

IG Singh said he was headed to the spot to directly monitor the situation and relief operations, where other senior officials of the district, including police, have reached.

Local police teams, along with personnel from the health and fire departments, rushed to the spot soon after information about the incident to undertake the rescue work, officials said.

Bareilly Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya said the incident occurred at around 4 pm.

“As per the preliminary investigation, it has been found that Nasir had a licence for explosives for some other place but the house in which the explosion occurred was of his in-laws,” said the SSP.

Denying the possibility of presence of some other explosive material leading to the blast, Arya said, “We have recovered remains of locally-made crackers from the spot. Prima facie it appears that the blast occurred because of them.”

The officer added that a probe into the matter is underway and appropriate action will be taken against those found involved in the incident.

Teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are still at the spot and are undertaking rescue work to ensure that nobody is left buried under the debris, the officials said.

  • PM Modi Slams JMM-Cong-RJD Alliance In Jharkhand, Calls Them ‘Hindrance To Development’ |

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the ruling alliance of Jharkhand, including JMM, Congress, and RJD, and said that this alliance is the biggest hindrance in the development of the state. He further said that JMM and Congress are busy carrying out a marathon of scams in Jharkhand.

“Now JMM has also been coloured by Congress and RJD. This is not the same old JMM. Today JMM has been taken over by the Congress ecosystem. Today JMM is haunted by the ghost of Congress—the language changed, the character changed, and now they are trying to change the soul of Jharkhand. JMM and Congress are busy conducting a marathon of scams in Jharkhand,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister was addressing a Parivartan Mahasabha in Hazaribagh. Continuing his attack at the ruling alliance, he said that when the central government is working day and night for the development of Jharkhand, the state government (the Hemant Soren-led government) is trying to derail the development of the state.

“The central government is working day and night for the development of Jharkhand, whereas, on the other hand, the state government (Hemant Soren-led government) is trying to derail the development of the state. Today everyone in the state knows that Congress JMM and RJD’s alliance is the biggest hindrance in the development of the state. Jharkhand will only grow and develop when the present government loses. Jharkhand will only grow when there is change in the state. Therefore, the Parivartan Yatra is underway in the state,” he said.

“I have heard that now, when he is about to leave, he has increased both the speed and scale of corruption. Thousands of transfers have taken place in Jharkhand in the last two weeks. Transfer-posting industry… this is a very big industry. JMM has made crores of rupees on the pretext of this. But now this game is not going to last long… soon the government will change in Jharkhand and every penny of this loot will be accounted for,” he further stated.

PM Modi lashed out at the grand old party and RJD and said that back before 2001, a party like RJD had made Jharkhand its place of loot and Congress was an equal shareholder with RJD. He further accused the Congress party of suppressing the demands of forming Jharkhand. He said that it was former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee who fulfilled the dreams and created Jharkhand state with peace and consensus.

“BJP is the party that, along with all of you, saw the dream of Jharkhand state and also fulfilled it. As soon as Atal Ji came to power, he created Jharkhand state with peace and consensus. We wanted the development of Jharkhand; we wanted to fulfill the dreams of the tribal society here, but in fulfilling these, we had to fight with parties like RJD. A party like RJD had made Jharkhand its place of loot. Water, forest, and land were openly looted. They had made this area a safe house for criminals and mafias, and who was supporting RJD from Delhi?—Congress Party. Congress was an equal shareholder with RJD. They used to say that Jharkhand wouldn’t be made, and the Congress party had assured to suppress the demands of Jharkhand,” the Prime Minister said.

Jharkhand is likely to go to polls for its 81-member legislative assembly by December 2024, as the current government’s tenure is set to end in January 2025. The Election Commission is yet to announce the election schedule. In the 2020 assembly election, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha won 30 seats, the Bharatiya Janta Party bagged 25 and the Congress won 16.

On this occasion, CM Hemant Soren said that today especially Jalsahiya Didis of Drinking Water and Sanitation Department are present in this program. Our government has worked to solve the problems of Jalsahiya Didis. The previous governments had worked to deprive Jalsahiya Didis of their rights. Chief Minister Hemant Soren said these things today in his address at the “State Level Jalsahiya Capacity Building-cum-Sanitation Hi Seva” program organized by the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department at Prabhat Tara Ground in Dhurwa, Ranchi.

Jalsahiyas play an important role in taking the schemes to every home.

The Chief Minister said that at present, through all you Jalsahiya Didis, many ambitious schemes of the state government reach every village and every house. The Chief Minister said that you remember the day when all your Jalsahiya didis were appointed during my short tenure in the previous government when I was a minister. No one can understand your problems better than me. Today there is a government in the state based on the hopes and aspirations of all of you. Certainly our government has been successful in fulfilling many of your expectations. The Chief Minister said that our aim is to make all you sisters and sisters a powerful link again. Our government is a sensitive government. Our government is purely the government of the original inhabitants and tribals of this state. I had said it earlier also and I am saying it even today that our government is not run from the Ranchi headquarters but is run from the villages. This is why your voices reach my ears.

Providing clean drinking water is the priority of the state government.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that today it is a big challenge to provide clean water to every village and every person. People will not fall ill only if they get clean water. If all of us together succeed in providing clean water to every village, then the people of the villages will become strong just as our ancestors were strong. It is the responsibility of all of us to provide clean drinking water up to the rural level. The Chief Minister said that many action plans have been prepared at the departmental level. The work of providing pure water through tanks, boring and pipelines is being done by the state government. Complaints are being received at many places that contractors are committing irregularities, Jalsahiya Didis will be given the responsibility to keep an eye on this and guard it. This work will be firmly in your hands. Now, if you file a complaint against the contractor who commits irregularities, the state government will take immediate action on it. Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren said that today the state government has taken the entire responsibility of AAP Jalsahiya Didis. I also hope that you will also play an important role in changing the direction and condition of Jharkhand by working step by step with the state government.

In the last 4 years, Rs 12 thousand crore funds were provided to the women self-help groups of the state.

The Chief Minister said that in different ways our government has made action plans for women self-help groups to stand on their own feet and make them self-reliant. Continuous efforts have been made to connect the sisters of women self-help groups in the state with maximum employment. The Chief Minister said that in the last 19 years, only Rs 600 to 700 crore funds were provided to the women of self-help groups by the previous governments. In the last 4 years, our government has provided a fund of Rs 12 thousand crore for the all-round development of women self-help groups. The Chief Minister said that only when the village becomes strong the state will become strong. The country can become strong only when the state is strong. The Chief Minister said that today many people talk about strengthening the country, but the condition of the villages is worse, how can the country be strong in such a situation. Even today, 80 crore people in this country are dependent on the food grains provided by the government. There is a need to change this situation only then the dream of developed India can be fulfilled.
