  • Paddy fraud worth Rs 91 lakh: Accused hid by changing identity and growing beard, police arrested

Rohit Kashyap, Mungeli. Even before the start of paddy procurement, the police has arrested the accused of fraud of paddy worth more than Rs 91 lakh, due to which there is panic among the employees associated with paddy procurement. This matter also becomes important because paddy procurement is going to start in the coming days. In such a situation, this action of the administration and police is a strong and big message to those employees that negligence and irregularities in paddy procurement work will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Let us tell you, the department had registered an FIR under the direction of Collector Rahul Dev, after which the accused Ramdas Banjare, who was an employee of Guruvain Dabri Paddy Procurement Centre, absconded as soon as the FIR was registered. He was living in Bilaspur after changing his name and address, but due to police vigilance he was caught. Seeing the seriousness of this matter, on the instructions of Collector Rahul Dev, Superintendent of Police Bhojram Patel himself did the monitoring. After which, on the instructions of Collector Rahul Dev, the police arrested the accused.

Even before this, FIR action was taken against many paddy procurement employees in the paddy shortage case, but due to the three-tier contract, there was no need for arrest due to relief from the court. But this in itself is a big action of a different kind, the discussion of which is in full swing in the department.

The heat of investigation till Shri Shyam Rice Product Management

Apart from paddy shortage, accused Ramdas Banjara is also accused of secretly loading and sending 600 bags of paddy in the vehicle of Shri Shyam Rice Product Barela with the intention of selling it dishonestly. Although the officers of the department had caught the vehicle red-handed in the paddy procurement center itself, which was found to be a vehicle of Shree Shyam Rice Products located in Barela of the district, then the investigation of the police is going to reach the manager of this product as well, this game of theft. What is the connection between this vehicle and the manager caught on the spot? Police action is going to be intensified in this direction, because this issue remained a mystery due to the absconding of the accused, but after the arrest, the heat of investigation is now certain to reach even Shri Shyam Rice Product Management, say police officers. Is. This is the reason why now the sword of action has started hanging on them too? Because till now there is no information whether any action has been taken against the management even after receiving the vehicle of this product.

Understand now what is the whole matter

The accused who committed fraud in Guruwindbari paddy procurement center of Lormi development block of the district has been arrested. Accused Ramdas Banjare, while being in-charge of the paddy procurement centre, had caused financial loss of more than Rs 91 lakh 68 thousand to the government by committing fraud. Considering the seriousness of this matter, Collector Rahul Dev had given instructions to arrest the accused as soon as possible. He has said that no person will be spared who causes financial loss to the government by committing fraud. If irregularities are found in other paddy procurement centers also, strict action will be taken as per rules.

    Superintendent of Police was monitoring

Superintendent of Police Bhojram Patel himself was actively monitoring this case and formed a team and gave necessary directions for arrest as soon as possible. As per the instructions of Collector and SP, under the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police Pankaj Patel and Vivek Shukla and under the leadership of SDOP Lormi Madhuri Dhirhi, raids were conducted at all possible places by the team of Lalpur police station and Cyber Cell. FIR Since then the accused was continuously changing his location. During this time, information was received that the accused was hiding near Tifra in Bilaspur by changing his name and address. On information, immediately the team of Lalpur police station and cyber cell was sent to Bilaspur for arrest and the accused was arrested near Tifra under siege and presented before the court.

How was the fraud worth lakhs carried out?

Assistant Commissioner Cooperative Hitesh Shriwas said that more than 2500 quintals of paddy was dishonestly embezzled by Ramdas Banjare during the purchase of paddy in the Kharif marketing year 2023-24. Along with this, 600 bags of paddy purchased from farmers were loaded into truck number CG 12 S 2108 of Shyam Rice Products Barela for dishonest sale. For the said act, an investigation was being registered against him under sections 420, 409 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code in Lalpur Mungeli police station. Kalyan Banerjee, a four-time MP from the Serampore constituency and a staunch supporter of TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, is no stranger to controversy. Known for his sharp tongue and bold remarks, Banerjee was suspended for a day from the parliamentary committee on the Waqf Bill after an ugly spat on Tuesday, which saw him smashing a glass water bottle and hurling it at the Chair during a heated argument.

The 67-year-old lawyer-turned-politician has earned a reputation as a “loose cannon” among his political opponents, frequently making inflammatory statements that ignite public and political outrage. His latest outburst came during a Joint Committee meeting on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, where Banerjee clashed with BJP MP and former Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay.

In a scene that has now become common for Banerjee, the argument between the two escalated quickly, with expletives flying in their native Bangla. BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, who chaired the meeting, said he and other members attempted to calm the situation, but Banerjee picked up a glass bottle, smashed it, and threw it towards the Chair. The TMC leader sustained minor injuries to his right hand in the process, cutting his thumb and little finger.

The Committee suspended Banerjee for a day, citing his use of inappropriate language and his violent actions. Pal stated that Banerjee’s habit of hurling cuss words was becoming a frequent issue, though some opposition members pointed out that Gangopadhyay also targeted Banerjee during the exchange.

    Controversy’s Favourite Child

This is hardly Banerjee’s first brush with controversy. Just last week, he mocked junior doctors protesting against the rape and murder of a colleague, dismissing their “fast-unto-death” as a mere “fast-unto-hospitalisation” to attract media attention. His remarks, like many before them, drew widespread criticism.

In December last year, Banerjee landed in hot water for mocking Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar during an opposition protest outside Parliament. His imitation of the former West Bengal governor sparked outrage, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu expressing their dismay.

Despite his abrasive public persona, Banerjee remains a key player in the TMC. His legal expertise is valued within the party, and he often serves as the go-to advisor on legal matters involving the party or the West Bengal government.

    Background And Political Career

Banerjee’s political journey started with student politics before transitioning into a prominent role in the TMC. He first gained significant attention in 2009 for criticizing then West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya’s leisurely time at the city’s cultural hub, Nandan.

Over the years, his outbursts have become a hallmark of his career. In 2012, Banerjee got into a heated exchange with union minister Anand Sharma over the issue of foreign direct investment (FDI) when the TMC withdrew its support from the Congress-led UPA government.

In 2016, Banerjee stirred the pot once again, this time during protests against demonetisation outside the Reserve Bank of India’s office in Kolkata. His controversial remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi led to sharp condemnation.

And in January 2021, just months before the West Bengal assembly elections, Banerjee invoked religious sentiments, slamming the BJP for the rape at Hathras by invoking Goddess Sita and Lord Ram. His remarks drew the ire of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the BJP, both of which demanded his immediate arrest.

Banerjee’s relationship with Jagdeep Dhankhar, during his time as West Bengal governor, was equally contentious. The TMC leader frequently clashed with Dhankhar, leading protests against the Raj Bhavan and even encouraging TMC workers to file police complaints against him. Banerjee hinted at possible legal action against Dhankhar once his term as governor ended.

Despite the long list of controversies, Kalyan Banerjee’s influence within the TMC remains strong, thanks to his sharp legal mind and unwavering loyalty to Mamata Banerjee. While his detractors may label him a “loose cannon,” his importance within the party cannot be understated.

  • Mehbooba Mufti Warns Govt Against Pressuring Non-Local Laborers To Leave Kashmir |

PDP president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said that the J-K administration is pressuring non-local labourers to leave the region following the recent terrorist attack in Sonamarg, which claimed seven lives. Mufti also called for a more measured response, warning that hasty decisions could damage Kashmir’s social and economic stability and tarnish the region’s image on a national level.

In her social media post, Mufti stressed that expelling non-locals could send a dangerous signal to the rest of the country, undermining the recent peaceful elections held in the Union Territory. She pointed out the risk of this move provoking retaliatory sentiments in other states where Kashmiri workers and students reside, potentially putting their safety at risk.

“Kashmiris living outside the valley could face similar hostility if we force these workers to leave in such a manner. The situation needs to be handled with care,” Mufti said.

She also emphasised the contributions of non-local labourers to the region’s economy, especially in sectors like construction, agriculture, and service industries, warning that their sudden departure could lead to severe labour shortages and halt critical projects.

The former chief minister called on current political leaders, including Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to ensure that labourers are given enough time to return home safely rather than being abruptly forced out.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police quickly responded to Mehbooba Mufti, quoting IGP Kashmir and said, “Social media reports claiming that the local administration has asked non-local workers to leave the valley are false. The Jammu and Kashmir Police is committed to ensuring security and fostering a safe environment for all individuals to pursue their livelihoods without fear or intimidation. The general public is advised not to pay heed to such false information on social media platforms.”

Although security has been beefed up across the Kashmir Valley after the Gagangeer attack, extra deployments can be seen on the roads in Kashmir.
