New Delhi is buzzing with excitement as India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train receives an overwhelming response from passengers. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the premium semi-high-speed train’s tickets between Kamakhya and Howrah sold out within hours of booking opening.

The Railway Ministry announced on Tuesday that the inaugural commercial run of train number 27576 has captured public imagination. Booking commenced on January 19, 2026, at 8 AM via PRS and other platforms, and every seat across all classes was snapped up in under 24 hours.

This milestone marks a significant leap in overnight rail travel. The train, flagged off virtually by PM Modi on January 17, 2026, will commence services from Kamakhya on January 22 and from Howrah on January 23. Travelers eagerly await its modern amenities, faster travel times, and superior comfort.

Railway officials highlighted the enthusiasm as a testament to the demand for swift, safe, and luxurious rail options. Connecting Northeast and Eastern India, this service promises to revolutionize regional connectivity with world-class nocturnal journeys.

In a related development, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled plans for nine new Amrit Bharat Express trains, including routes like Kamakhya-Rohtak, Howrah-Anand Vihar Terminal, Bengaluru-Alipurduar, and Gomti Nagar-Dibrugarh. These initiatives underscore India’s push towards enhanced rail infrastructure.
