Hyderabad witnessed a historic moment in its energy sector as Telangana successfully met a staggering peak power demand of 18,139 megawatts on Tuesday. This marks the highest ever recorded in the state’s history, showcasing remarkable operational prowess.
State power utilities achieved this feat without a hitch at 11:01 AM, ensuring uninterrupted supply across the region. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who also holds the energy portfolio, hailed the achievement as a testament to the state’s economic surge and efficient power management.
“This milestone reflects Telangana’s robust economic growth, seamless coordination, and operational excellence,” he stated in an official release. Despite its relatively compact geographical size, Telangana now matches or surpasses peak demands of much larger states like Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
The record comes amid rapid industrialization, booming IT and pharmaceutical sectors, expanded manufacturing, and increased agricultural needs driven by irrigation. Compared to 15,623 MW last year and 17,162 MW earlier this year, this jump underscores relentless demand growth.
Vikramarka praised senior officials and the entire staff of state electricity companies for their dedication in maintaining high-quality supply. He emphasized that Telangana is not just meeting current needs but is fully prepared for future summer peaks with a strong grid infrastructure and proactive strategies.
This accomplishment positions Telangana as a power sector leader, setting a benchmark for other states through collective efforts from control rooms to field staff. The state’s energy landscape continues to evolve, fueling its ambition to become an economic powerhouse.
