In a bold push towards sustainable energy, the Indian government has rolled out the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, targeting one crore households across the nation with rooftop solar installations. This ambitious initiative promises up to 300 units of free electricity monthly, revolutionizing power access for millions.

Gautam Buddh Nagar’s Backward Class Welfare Officer and UP NEDA Project Officer, Lavesh Kumar Sisodia, shared key insights on the program’s rapid implementation. Spearheaded by the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) from its Lucknow headquarters, the scheme is gaining momentum statewide.

Households stand to slash electricity bills dramatically while generating surplus power to sell back to the grid, creating an additional income stream. Eligible beneficiaries receive direct subsidies into their bank accounts—up to Rs 78,000—making solar adoption affordable. For a 1 kW system, it’s Rs 30,000; 2 kW gets Rs 60,000; and 3 kW qualifies for the full Rs 78,000, transferred transparently post-verification.

The application process is streamlined online via the official portal. After registration, applicants secure approval from their local discom, install panels, upload net meter and bank details, and await subsidy disbursement. Low-interest loans at around 7% without collateral further ease the financial burden for systems up to 3 kW.

To qualify, applicants must be Indian citizens with suitable rooftops, valid electricity connections, and no prior solar subsidies. Required documents include Aadhaar, recent bills, bank passbook, mobile, and email. For guidance, visit Project Officer, UPNEDA, Room 111, Vikas Bhavan, Surajpur, Greater Noida.

This initiative marks a pivotal step in Uttar Pradesh’s clean energy journey, empowering citizens with green power and economic benefits while curbing carbon emissions nationwide.
