New Delhi, January 21 – OnePlus India has firmly dismissed swirling rumors suggesting the company is winding down its operations in the country. In a clear statement released on Wednesday, the brand emphasized that business is running smoothly as usual.

OnePlus CEO Robin Liu took to social media platform X to address the misinformation directly. ‘I want to clarify the false information circulating about OnePlus India and its operations. We are operating normally and will continue to do so,’ Liu posted, urging stakeholders to verify facts from official sources before sharing unconfirmed claims.

The clarification comes amid heightened scrutiny on smartphone manufacturers in India, where rigorous security checks and intensifying market competition are testing the resilience of global players. OnePlus, established in 2013 as an independent brand, maintains close ties with Oppo, both under the BBK Electronics umbrella, sharing investors and supply chains.

In India’s mid-premium smartphone segment, OnePlus has shown robust growth. According to recent data, its market share climbed from 3% to 4% in Q3 2025, marking a 10.7% year-on-year increase. Samsung leads the pack, followed by Oppo and OnePlus.

The broader Indian smartphone market hit a five-year high in the same quarter, shipping 48 million units with 4.3% annual growth, per International Data Corporation (IDC) figures. India’s smartphone exports from 2021 to 2025 totaled nearly $79 billion, with 2025 contributing the largest share. Apple iPhones dominated, accounting for about 75% of shipments valued over $22 billion.

Government initiatives are fueling this boom. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently highlighted how semiconductor production boosts will further elevate electronics exports. India now ranks as the world’s second-largest mobile phone producer, with over 99% of domestic sales being ‘Made in India’ devices, strengthening its position in global manufacturing chains.

As the Smartphone PLI scheme nears its March 2026 expiry, reports suggest the government is exploring extensions or enhancements to sustain momentum. For OnePlus, these developments underscore a stable and promising landscape, far from the shutdown narratives being peddled online.
