NHAI Hikes FASTag Annual Pass Fee by Rs 75 from 2026

by World Opinion

In a move impacting millions of highway commuters, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced a Rs 75 increase in the FASTag annual pass fee. Effective April 1, 2026, the new price stands at Rs 3,075, up from the previous Rs 3,000.

This adjustment aligns with the provisions of the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008. The Road Transport and Highways Ministry confirmed the hike for the financial year 2026-27, emphasizing its role in sustaining toll operations.

FASTag annual passes have surged in popularity among private vehicle owners, boasting over 5.6 million users nationwide. Designed for non-commercial vehicles with valid FASTags, the pass grants unlimited access to approximately 1,150 toll plazas across national highways and expressways.

Users pay a one-time fee valid for one year or up to 200 toll crossings, whichever comes first. This eliminates the need for frequent recharges, making highway travel seamless for regular commuters. Once payment is processed via the MyFASTag app or NHAI website, the pass activates on the linked FASTag within two hours.

Launched on Independence Day 2025, the pass reflects NHAI’s push towards digital tolling efficiency. Its growing adoption underscores the demand for cost-effective, hassle-free long-distance travel options in India’s expanding highway network.

Frequent travelers stand to benefit most, as the pass offers predictability in costs amid rising infrastructure demands. NHAI assures smooth transitions for existing users, with renewal options readily available online.
