In a major push for India’s rail infrastructure, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has greenlit three multi-tracking railway projects worth an estimated Rs 18,509 crore. These initiatives will expand the Indian Railways network by approximately 389 kilometers, enhancing connectivity across multiple states.

The approved projects include the addition of third and fourth lines on the Kasara-Manmad, Delhi-Ambala, and Ballari-Hospete sections. Spanning 12 districts in Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Karnataka, these developments will directly benefit around 97 lakh people and strengthen links to 3,902 villages.

This expansion is set to dramatically improve operational efficiency and service reliability by decongesting key routes and streamlining freight and passenger movement. Aligned with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the projects emphasize integrated planning to boost multi-modal connectivity and logistics efficiency.

Tourism stands to gain significantly, with better rail access to iconic sites like Bhushi Dam, Shri Ghatandeviji, Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga, Vaishno Devi Katra, Srinagar, Hampi (UNESCO World Heritage Site), Ballari Fort, Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary, Tungabhadra Dam, and more. Freight capacity will surge by 96 million tonnes annually, supporting transport of coal, steel, iron ore, cement, food grains, and more.

Environmentally, these rail upgrades promote greener transport, cutting oil imports by 22 crore liters and reducing CO2 emissions by 111 crore kilograms—equivalent to planting 4 crore trees. By fostering self-reliance and job creation, the projects embody the vision of a ‘New India’ under PM Modi’s leadership, driving regional development and economic growth.
