The Volkswagen Virtus has emerged as the top-selling premium sedan in India for 2025, maintaining its lead from the previous year. This success underscores the enduring appeal of sedans in a market increasingly dominated by SUVs.

From January to August 2025, the Virtus recorded sales of 13,853 units, reflecting a 9% increase compared to the previous year. The premium sedan segment saw a total of 37,575 units sold between January and July, with the Virtus accounting for a significant 33% share. This indicates that a substantial portion of buyers in the segment chose the Virtus. The ex-showroom prices for the Volkswagen Virtus range from approximately 11.56 lakh to 19.40 lakh, varying based on the specific model and location.

The Virtus has outperformed its established rivals, including the popular Honda City and Hyundai Verna. While these models remain relevant, their sales figures have not kept pace with the Virtus in recent months. Maruti Suzuki’s Ciaz experienced a significant decline, with no sales recorded in August 2025, a stark contrast to the 707 units sold in August of the previous year.

The popularity of the Virtus is driven by its design, performance, and safety features. It meets the needs of customers seeking a car that balances everyday practicality with an engaging driving experience, giving it an advantage over competitors.

The Virtus is offered with two petrol engine options:

    * A 1.0-liter TSI engine generating 113 bhp and 178 Nm of torque, available with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox.
    * A 1.5-liter TSI engine producing 148 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, available with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.

The Virtus’s success in a market dominated by SUVs highlights its unique position and contribution to the sedan segment.
