The sub-4 meter SUV market is highly competitive, with several new launches expected. These upcoming vehicles will include both EVs and models with internal combustion engines. Some are currently undergoing testing, and some have been previewed.
The next-generation Hyundai Venue is scheduled to launch by October 2025 and is currently undergoing testing in India. This new version will replace the existing Venue, which received a facelift in 2022. Spy shots indicate a larger infotainment display, similar to the Hyundai Creta. The engine options are anticipated to remain the same, although prices are expected to increase from the current range.
The Kia Syros EV, which is undergoing testing in Korea, appears to share several features with its gasoline counterpart. Built on a reinforced K1 platform, it may feature a similar interior layout but will use battery packs from the Hyundai Inster. Two battery options are expected: a 42 kWh pack and a 49 kWh Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) pack, offering estimated ranges of around 300 km and 355 km, respectively. Prices could be in the ₹14–20 lakh range.
The Hyundai Bayon, another upcoming model, will be positioned between the Exter and the Venue in Hyundai’s portfolio. Built on the i20 platform, it is expected to share its engine lineup with the i20 hatchback. Reports suggest the 1.2-liter petrol engine might be equipped with mild-hybrid technology, boosting both efficiency and performance. The Hyundai Bayon is slated to launch within the next year.
Tata is planning to launch the all-new Tata Nexon soon. This SUV, codenamed Garud, is built on the X1 architecture and is expected to launch in 2027. It will have design updates similar to other Tata SUVs and will be available in petrol and CNG trims. Whether the existing 1.5L engines are used, or new hybrid technology is introduced, remains unclear. Diesel engines, if offered, will be adjusted to meet BS7 emission standards.
While manufacturers intend to introduce these models within the next year, some launches could be delayed due to factors such as rare-earth metal shortages and supply chain issues.
Although Toyota has not revealed any details about the potential launch of a new-generation Toyota Fortuner, market expectations point towards its possibility. The new Fortuner could feature modern elements such as a head-up display, ADAS tech, and ventilated seats. The styling accents will likely resemble those of the current-generation Hilux and other international models.
