Following a strong initial reception, Tesla’s Model Y sales in India have experienced a downturn. In October 2025, Tesla sold 40 units, a significant 37.5% decrease from September’s figures. This deceleration comes despite the overall Indian electric vehicle market witnessing robust growth, climbing by 17.78% to over 18,000 units during the same period. Tesla, which launched its operations with showrooms in Mumbai and Delhi, has sold a total of 104 Model Y units since its inception. The high cost of the Model Y in India, driven by import duties on CBU vehicles, is a key factor. The Model Y RWD Standard is priced at Rs 59.89 lakh, and the Long Range RWD at Rs 67.89 lakh. These prices put it in contention with luxury electric SUVs from established brands such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW. The Model Y offers a sleek design, a minimalist interior featuring a large touchscreen, and advanced driver-assistance features, along with competitive range and charging capabilities.
