Tesla is aggressively expanding its footprint in the Indian electric vehicle market with the upcoming opening of a second retail center. This Tesla Experience Centre will launch on August 11 at the WorldMark 3 campus in Aerocity, Delhi, targeting customers in the National Capital Region, a major hub for India’s EV push. The new center comes just weeks after the launch of its initial showroom in Mumbai, which opened on July 15 at the Maker Maxity Mall. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, was present at the Mumbai launch. He extended an invitation to Tesla to establish research and development and manufacturing facilities in the state. The Aerocity location is in the final stages of construction, with an estimated monthly rent of approximately Rs 25 lakh. Images of the upcoming outlet have been shared on social media, emphasizing the brand’s premium positioning. Currently, the Model Y is the sole Tesla model offered in India, with prices starting at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The Model Y is offered in two variants: The Standard rear-wheel drive model includes a 60 kWh battery with a 500 km WLTP-certified range, and the Long-range rear-wheel drive model comes with a 75 kWh battery, offering up to 622 km of range. Deliveries are initially prioritized for customers in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram, with direct-to-home deliveries on flat-bed trucks. Tesla has also enhanced its website to facilitate vehicle registration across all Indian states and union territories, broadening its reach. The Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature is listed as an optional extra on the website, priced at Rs 6 lakh, although its availability in India will follow. The Model Y launch also represents the debut of Tesla’s India website, reflecting the company’s dedication to growing its Indian operations, notwithstanding the challenges related to EV policies and infrastructure.
