The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) offers an annual toll pass for private vehicles priced at Rs 3,000. The pass provides either 200 toll-free trips or a year-long validity. One individual, based in Noida, has gained recognition on social media for effectively utilizing this pass during an extensive road trip.

This individual traveled approximately 11,000 kilometers solo in his Mahindra Thar over 25 days. The journey covered 13 states, including visits to 12 Jyotirlingas and four Dhams. The traveler jokingly suggested that he should be awarded for his efficient use of the annual pass.

The pass initially provided 199 trips, with 80 trips left upon the journey’s completion. This means approximately 119 toll plazas were traversed. Typically, such a lengthy trip would have resulted in toll fees ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 17,000, but the pass provided considerable savings.

However, the pass was not universally accepted. Additional tolls of Rs 1,200 were paid on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway, and Rs 2,400 was spent in Tamil Nadu and other areas. Furthermore, the traveler covered an extra 200 kilometers for the enjoyment of the road, leading to increased diesel costs. Nevertheless, the traveler regarded the pass as highly beneficial.

The video was shared on Instagram on September 24 and has gained over 1 million views, with numerous positive comments. Some users highlighted the trip as an accomplishment, while others shared their own experiences. Questions arose about the necessity of extra toll payments despite having the annual pass.

NHAI regulations stipulate that the pass is only valid for private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans. The vehicle must have an active Fastag that is not blacklisted. Vehicles registered by chassis number require updating. Commercial vehicles, like buses and trucks, are excluded from this scheme.

The Noida resident’s experience demonstrates that the NHAI annual toll pass can be a cost-effective solution for those undertaking extended journeys. While there are limitations, proper utilization can significantly reduce expenses for travelers.
