Maruti Suzuki is set to launch a new SUV in India to directly compete with the Hyundai Creta. While the company has kept most details of the upcoming SUV under wraps, it confirmed the launch will be on September 3rd. A teaser has been released, highlighting the vehicle’s full LED tail lamp design. The tail lamp design features a 3D appearance with a sleek brake lamp. Turn indicators are located on either side of the brake lamp. The initial impression is similar to the Maruti Suzuki Swift’s tail lamp design, but with enhanced styling. The upcoming SUV is part of the company’s strategy to increase its market share in the mass-market SUV segment. It is anticipated to be based on the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. However, it will be positioned between the Grand Vitara and Maruti Suzuki Brezza in the Maruti portfolio. Reports suggest that the new SUV will be sold through the Arena dealerships. The new SUV will likely utilize existing powertrains, including a 1.5-liter petrol engine that generates 101 bhp and 139 Nm of torque, as well as a petrol-CNG option. Furthermore, the new SUV could be available with a petrol-hybrid powertrain like the Grand Vitara. Maruti Suzuki’s recent announcement of lithium-ion battery production in India suggests that these batteries will be used in the hybrid powertrains of the Grand Vitara and the new SUV, potentially lowering the SUV’s price.
