Mahindra is developing a new pickup truck with the goal of directly competing with established models like the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. This marks a significant move for Mahindra in the pickup segment, aiming to gain a stronger foothold in a market where it currently has a smaller presence. Based on the Scorpio-N platform, the concept was revealed two years ago. Now, testing of the new model is underway, with camouflaged prototypes appearing on Indian roads. The length of the truck is striking, exceeding 5.50 meters, which is longer than the Hilux and V-Cross. The test model differs in several aspects from the Scorpio-N. It will be offered in both single and dual cab versions; the tested model was the single cab configuration. The front fascia of the pickup differs from the Scorpio-N SUV, featuring a mesh grille and halogen headlights. The bonnet is carried over from the Scorpio-N, but with a slightly softer profile. The prototype is fitted with 18-inch steel wheels, which suggests this may be a lower-spec variant. The previous concept used all-terrain tires, while the test model employs standard road tires. The pickup will likely utilize the same ladder-on-frame chassis as the Scorpio-N, with changes to the suspension to support heavier loads. The dashboard and interior features are mostly derived from the Scorpio-N model.
