The Indian government is contemplating changes to the GST structure that could significantly impact the prices of vehicles. Small cars, including entry-level hatchbacks, small sedans, and mini-SUVs, currently face a combined tax of 28 percent GST plus a cess. The proposal is to lower this to 18 percent. Mid-size cars may also experience a slight tax reduction, while luxury cars and SUVs could see the imposition of additional charges to maintain the current tax rates. Motorcycle prices, particularly for entry-level models, are also expected to be affected.
