With the Indian emphasis on family, MPVs continue to be popular. Here’s a guide to some of the most budget-friendly MPVs designed to meet the needs of larger families.
Renault Triber
The Triber has become a favorite due to its affordability and three-row seating. It offers an ideal mix of user-friendliness and utility. The middle row has a 60:40 split and slides, improving third-row access and comfort. The third-row seats can be taken out, creating more storage space. A 1.0-liter petrol engine with 72 hp powers the Triber.
Price range: Rs 6.1 lakh to Rs 8.47 lakh.
Suzuki Ertiga
The Suzuki Ertiga is a well-known MPV, offering a smooth and comfortable ride. It uses a 1.5-liter petrol engine that generates 103 hp, which is sufficient for highway driving with a full load of passengers. One drawback is that the middle-row seats fold, but don’t tumble, making access to the third row somewhat difficult. The Suzuki XL6, a more upscale option, is only offered in a 6-seater configuration.
Price range: Rs 8.84 lakh to Rs 13.13 lakh.
Mahindra Bolero Neo
The Bolero Neo features a 1.5-liter diesel engine producing 100 hp. It is an enhanced version of the standard Bolero, with a more comfortable and updated interior. The middle row offers seating for three passengers, with plenty of legroom and headroom. The third-row seats are better suited for children or luggage.
Price range: Rs 9.95 lakh to Rs 12.16 lakh.
KIA Carens
The KIA Carens offers multiple engine options:
115 hp – 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol
160 hp – 1.5-liter turbo petrol
116 hp – 1.5-liter diesel
It’s considered one of the most well-rounded MPVs, offering both comfort and practicality. Kia has addressed common MPV issues. The middle-row seats have a 60:40 split, folding and tumbling for easier third-row access.
The Carens is available in a single variant, with the Carens Clavis available at various price points.
Citroen AirCorss
The C3 Aircross offers two engine choices:
82 hp – 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol
110 hp – 1.2-liter turbo petrol
The middle-row seats offer comfortable upholstery. However, the third row is smaller and better for children or luggage. These seats can also be removed to create more storage. The middle row offers a 60:40 split but lacks a recline function and center armrest, which could affect comfort on long trips.
Price range: Rs 12.46 lakh to Rs 14.35 lakh.
