As tensions escalate between Israel and Iran, the Israeli authorities focused on a specific vulnerability within their ports: electric vehicles. The danger arises from the potential for fires in EVs, which are difficult to extinguish due to the thermal runaway effect in their batteries. Because of this, authorities were prompted to evacuate all EVs from the country’s seaports to prevent any further damage. The ports of Haifa and Ashdod were particularly at risk, as the EVs could cause severe collateral damage. This would have a large effect on the infrastructure of the ports and also affect the cargo that passes through these ports. The authorities ordered car importers in the country to move the EVs out of the ports.
