Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over the commencement of the localized production of hybrid battery electrodes at the Suzuki Motor Plant in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. During the event, he also flagged off the export of the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, the brand’s first global battery electric vehicle, to over 100 countries. The e-Vitara had its Indian debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January 2025. Suzuki’s Indian operations are substantial, with an annual production capacity of 2.6 million units across four plants. In FY25, the company exported over 3.32 lakh vehicles and sold 19.01 lakh units within India, underscoring its market presence. Alongside the e-Vitara, other models such as the Suzuki Fronx and Jimny have also become popular internationally. The e-Vitara is slated to compete with the Hyundai Creta Electric. The e-Vitara will offer a rear-wheel-drive module in certain trims, while the Hyundai Creta will not have this option. A prior leak indicated the e-Vitara will feature a 75 kWh battery pack, with all-wheel drive in the Empowered trim, along with a 12.3-inch screen and ADAS Level 2 safety features. The article presents a comparison of the Tata Harrier EV against the Suzuki e-Vitara and the Hyundai Creta Electric. The e-Vitara, Suzuki’s inaugural electric vehicle, is equipped with ventilated seats, flexible boot space, and a range of modern features. It incorporates the HEARTECT-e platform, which is a dedicated EV design, designed for innovation, efficiency, and performance. The e-Vitara will be powered by a 61 kWh Lithium-ion battery, tested for durability across a wide temperature range (-30 °C to 60 °C), offering an estimated range of around 500 km. The table provides a comparison of pricing. The Hyundai Creta EV, another contender, is expected to come with 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh battery options, providing a claimed range of up to 473 km. However, when compared to the Tata Harrier EV, the Creta EV may lack certain driving features and off-road capabilities, which positions it as a more standard subcompact SUV.
