Bajaj Auto has restarted production of the Chetak electric scooter, resolving the supply chain issue caused by a shortage of rare-earth magnets from China. The company’s focus is now on ensuring ample stock for customers and dealers, coinciding with the festive season.
Production figures for July 2025 revealed a 47% year-on-year decrease, with only 10,824 units produced, a direct result of the magnet shortage. Bajaj executives had previously alerted that a complete shutdown of August production was a possibility if supply problems persisted. However, with supply lines stabilized, the company reports sufficient inventory to meet customer demand. Deliveries to dealerships are also in progress, ensuring timely fulfillment of existing orders.
The Chetak boasts a premium, retro-inspired design and is driven by a fully electric powertrain. It features LED lighting, a digital instrument cluster, and smartphone connectivity for advanced navigation and diagnostics.
Equipped with an electric motor, the Chetak offers great performance for city riding and an impressive range. Its lithium-ion battery delivers good mileage for daily use, while regenerative braking enhances efficiency. The scooter is offered in multiple trim levels.
The Bajaj Chetak’s pricing structure remains unchanged. The production recovery allows Bajaj to satisfy anticipated festive season demand and enhances its competitive position against rivals, including TVS, Ather Energy, and Hero (Vida).
