Srinagar. As soon as the government elected by the people comes to power in Jammu and Kashmir, the process of acquiring the status of a full state from the Union Territory has started. In this context, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has approved the proposal passed by the cabinet led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, in which the Central Government has been urged to restore the state status of the Union Territory.

This resolution, passed unanimously in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday, demands restoration of the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir to its original form. Officials confirmed that the LG has given his approval to this proposal.

The spokesperson said, “A process will begin with the restoration of statehood, regaining constitutional rights and protecting the identity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.” The Cabinet has authorized Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to pursue the case with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Government of India for restoration of statehood.

Apart from this, the Cabinet has decided to convene the Assembly session in Srinagar on November 4 and has also advised the LG to convene and address the Assembly. The draft of LG’s address to the Assembly was presented before the Council of Ministers for the beginning of the first session. The Council decided that the draft should be further reviewed and discussed.

    Opposition parties criticized the proposal

Parties like the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), People’s Conference (PC) and Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) criticized the National Conference (NC), accusing it of “complete capitulation” and change from pre-poll stance.

  • IND vs NZ: Sarfaraz Khan Registers Maiden Test Hundred, Leads India’s Charge | cricket news

IND vs NZ: Sarfaraz Khan scored his maiden international century during the first Test between India and New Zealand at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday. The 26-year-old took just 110 balls to reach the milestone, showcasing his aggressive intent with 13 boundaries and three towering sixes.

Sarfaraz, who replaced Shubman Gill in the playing XI due to Gill’s stiff neck, finally made his mark on the international stage after seven innings in Test cricket. His maiden century was especially remarkable given his dismissal for a duck in the first innings of this match. This achievement also marked the 22nd instance of an Indian player scoring both a duck and a century in the same Test match.

After India’s openers fell quickly in the second innings, Sarfaraz formed a crucial partnership with Virat Kohli, adding over 100 runs for the third wicket. His innings was vital in India’s efforts to take the lead, as they continued to push towards a dominant position in the match.

Sarfaraz’s domestic form has been exceptional. Just earlier this month, he hammered a double century for Mumbai in the Irani Cup against Rest of India. His First-Class record has been equally impressive, with 15 centuries under his belt, and he has gained a reputation for turning his hundreds into massive scores. In fact, he has converted 10 of those 15 centuries into 150-plus innings, including four double hundreds.

With an astonishing First-Class average of 69.56, the highest among active cricketers, Sarfaraz’s domestic success has now translated to the international arena. His highest First-Class score of 301 not out, achieved for Mumbai in the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy against his former team Uttar Pradesh, further illustrates his potential for big scores.

Sarfaraz’s international debut earlier this year against England saw him start with twin half-centuries in Rajkot and another fifty in Dharamsala, helping India clinch the series 3-1. His Test century against New Zealand now solidifies his place in India’s batting lineup as a future star.

Sarfaraz Khan’s performance in this match signals the beginning of what could be a long and fruitful career for India. His consistency in domestic cricket is now translating into key contributions at the highest level, and India will surely count on him as a critical player in the years to come.

  • Indian Diplomats ‘Clearly On Notice’, Says Canada Foreign Minister Amid Diplomatic Tensions | India News

Canada’s Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly on Friday cautioned Indian diplomats remaining in the country, stating they are ‘clearly on notice’ not to compromise Canadian safety. The statement comes as diplomatic tensions continue to rise, fueled by Canada’s unproven allegations of Indian involvement in the death of a Sikh separatist leader, a claim that India has firmly rejected.

The diplomatic standoff intensified earlier this week when Canada expelled India’s High Commissioner and five other diplomats, accusing them of involvement in a campaign of violence and intimidation targeting Sikh separatists in the country. The response came following New Delhi’s rejection of Ottawa’s allegations connecting the envoy to the investigation into the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. While, Canada announced it had expelled 6 Indian diplomats.

“We’ve never seen that in our history. That level of transnational repression cannot happen on Canadian soil. We’ve seen it elsewhere in Europe. Russia has done that in Germany and the UK and we needed to stand firm on this issue,” PTI quoted Joly in Montreal.

When asked about the possibility of further expulsions of Indian diplomats, Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly stated, “They are clearly on notice. Six of them have been expelled, including the High Commissioner in Ottawa. Others were primarily based in Toronto and Vancouver, and we clearly won’t tolerate any diplomats that are in contravention of the Vienna Convention.”

Joly’s comments come as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) allege that Indian diplomats were involved in the events leading to the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Sikh separatist and designated terrorist in India, who was shot dead last year in British Columbia.
